A carer with a daughter and wife in a wheelchair has attacked the BBC and Nick Knowles.
The Beeb has had a dispute with him for the past three and a half years about allegedly defective work.
The carer, who was on stage with his family at the time of the accident, was stunned when it all fell apart.
He declined the BBC’s compensation offer because of the cost doubled.
Chapman says that DIY SOS stole him three years and is now killing him from the stress.
The toilet wall bars were loose on the day that they returned the house to DIY SOS. His wife almost fell out of the bathroom when it was first taken back.
Sarah, aged 59 and Suzanne, age 39, suffer from Myotonic Dystrophy which impacts their muscles.
According to Mr Chapman’s wife and his daughter, they could not access the outdoor areas built on-screen for them because of their ‘dangerous’ condition.
Also, according to Mr Chapman, part of the hall collapsed. This could have caused fatalities.
The roof was leaking, the driveway was not properly laid out, and there were cracks in the walls.
DIY SOS is something I wish I had never known about. “They don’t even want me to be aware of them.” He said.
It was all done to create an effect. The whole thing was done to make us look bad.
According to BBC, Mr Chapman built his house in compliance with the building codes.
The statement added that M. Chapman declined the help offered.
The show was broadcast despite Mr Chapman’s request to not broadcast it.
The hundreds of volunteers that take part in DIY SOS make it a programme which brings people together.
The Charlton Kings construction was planned, executed and approved by building control on site.
BBC reported that Mr Chapman was offered several solutions and his house had been assessed by an independent third party.
According to the Corporation, Mr Chapman continued home improvements after filming finished.
The BBC, as part of their duty to care for those that appeared on its show, returned the items of Mr Chapman.
