UPPER SAUCON TWP (Pa.) – According to the National Weather Service, it was straight-line wind, and not tornadoes that split trees on Monday.

A survey team visited the Lehigh Valley Tuesday and released its findings Wednesday evening. Some communities were still picking up the pieces 48-hours later.

The weather service reported that on Wednesday evening, an EF-1 Tornado touched down near Bethlehem’s Union Boulevard in Midway Manor.

According to the Weather Service, several trees had fallen along Calvert Place and especially near Afton village of Upper Saucon.

Afton village was littered with branches as trees fell across the land. A few of them leaned up against the two-story house. One person smashed the corner of a window.

The weather service reported that peak winds reached speeds of 90-100 mph in Saucon Valley, uprooting or snapping trees by their trunks.

This was confirmed to be a straight line wind, and not a tornado.

Upper Saucon Valley Road is closed between Route 378 and Route 378.

Lower Saucon, along Bingen Road was home to uprooted trees and damaged ones.

It was at its worst near Lanark Road, along a 600 yard wide path measuring more than half-a-mile.

This burst of winds lasted about 2 minutes, and covered 1.63 miles.

Mark Hudson, the Lower Saucon Township manager, announced on Wednesday morning that all roads in Lower Saucon are now open.

He said that the crews were still fine-tuning everything. We have roads open but need to clean some places. “We will continue to do this until Thursday.”

In addition to Lehigh Valley, survey teams are also located in the Mid-Atlantic Region.

Wind damage has been reported in Bethlehem Township (New Jersey) at several locations.

A tornado measuring EF-0 with winds up to 85 mph was spotted in Holland Township in Hunterdon County in New Jersey. The path measured 200 yards in width and half a mile in length.

Weather service reports that wind speeds in Hockessin’s Lakewood Farm reached 110mph. About 15 to 20 large trees and up to 15-20 smaller trees were uprooted.
