According to the Post, their mom said the three kids were recovering after a weekend fire left them unable to breathe on their own.
On Sunday, firefighters and EMS personnel rescued Naomi, Tonya, and Anthony from a home on Livonia Avenue, Brownsville.
The children were still not doing well, according to mom Alicia Hazel.
They’re all opening their eyes and moving, Hazel told The Post outside NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center in Manhattan. The doctor said the tubes would be removed tomorrow or on Friday.
Naomi, Hazel’s eldest child, was able to have the ventilator removed from her Tuesday morning.
Then, Hazel said “My homework!” “I left it!” She said, “That’s fine, baby. Don’t worry about it anymore.”
The 37-year-old father of these children, Anthony Halliburton, is charged with three counts, including abandoning a child and endangering its welfare.
Halliburton was released from custody after being arraigned in Brooklyn Criminal Court on Monday morning.
They can’t breathe on their own. Naomi, Tonya, and Anthony are all on ventilators.
The judge ordered him not to contact the two biological children.
Halliburton is “just not ready” to talk to Hazel, she says.
As she looked away and shook her head, she continued, “He said he would get something for them to eat.” But I need to focus on my children.”
“I’m homeless and looking for housing so I can accept my children when they’re ready to move out.” she said.
According to the NYPD, the children should have been with their father. Therefore, the mother will not face charges.
A chaotic, loud scene ensued as smoke blazed out of the apartment.
After hearing a loud bang, a woman thought someone had hammered on her window.
When she opened the door, she saw smoke and fire coming from the windows. “There was black smoke covering the whole sky.” she said.
At a press conference on Sunday, John Hodgens said the chief of the FDNY found two children lying on the living room floor and another behind the front door.
To assist the family in the aftermath of the fire, a GoFundMe page has been created.
A hospital photo taken after the fire showed three teenagers with breathing tubes.
On Monday, WPIX reported that Halliburton had left the children alone.
Three children should not be left alone at home, Rahnell Texsara told the station.
I’m thinking, “I don’t know what could happen within a minute,” Texsara replied. “These are children.”
He soaked himself in water before trying to enter the apartment. The bravest of the city broke the door open and rescued the children.
According to the Post, Halliburton had previously been arrested for unauthorized sales of fare cards and forging tokens.
He has also been arrested twice for drug possession, according to sources.
Sources say he has been arrested dozens of times, but only twice.
One of the busts took place in Manhattan, while one arrest was made in Brooklyn.
New Yorkers have been urged to keep their children close after Hazel’s tragic accident.
As she said, “Never ever leave your kids alone.”.
