The torrential rain that fell over the weekend caused trains to be cancelled, and many roads in eastern Norway were closed. Red-level flood warnings were issued in several areas as the new week began due to an increased risk of flooding.
Flytoget, the Airport Express Train between Oslo Airport Central Station and Oslo Airport has been affected. A new update is expected Monday noon.
In an announcement on Sunday night, Bane NOR informed that the Bergensbanen route from Geilo to Gol was closed because of a large amount of water. It is likely to be some time before the rail route reopens. The next update will come on Monday morning.
Due to reduced availability of track, the Ostfold line is also affected. There are delays at Hauketo and trains have been rescheduled. An update on this route will be provided at noon Monday.
On Sunday afternoon, meteorologists in the Drammensvassdraget area issued a warning of red flood danger. This warning is for several municipalities including Sondre Land, Gran, Ringerike, Jevnaker, Hole, Modum, and Lier.
Water levels are high
Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate NVE warns that water levels in Tyrifjorden are likely to reach the same level as during Storm Hans. This extreme weather caused major disruptions across Norway earlier this month.
The orange level warning was issued for lower sections of the Drammenselva River as well as Mjosa and Vorma and portions of Innlandet, Viken and Innlandet. According to Norwegian news agency NTB, all these alerts are expected to remain until at least Tuesday morning.
Flooding also caused the closure of other road segments. These include the National Road 7 between Bromma-Gol, County road 2906 Liodden, in Nesbyen; the County road 2910 Rukkedalsveien; the E134 between Steinbergveien bridge and Loe Bridges and the county road 2708 Mjondalen, in Mjondalen’s direction.
